Pig Business and the Center for Food Safety co-hosted a first US screening and panel discussion in collaboration with Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) at the Capitol Visitors Center, Washington DC, 9th March 2011. The goal of this screening and platform for debate was to raise awareness about harms caused to human health, animals, livelihoods, and the environment due to practices of industrial pig farming, including highlighting the global linkages of the pig industry. We also aimed to strengthen existing and future campaigns and new legislation aimed at ending Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs).
From NYC born/raised, I believe our daily abuse of mammals is worst than rare attacks. Today alone more animals were tortured to death than all of 9-11 and by terrorists ever. Factory Farms ore meat also is the leading killer in Humans too – our heath care system, environment that we rely on and even world hunger. Every 10lbs of corn or grains we feed an animal only yields about 1 lb of flesh. So while humans go hungry force bred animals well fed. To reduce inefficiencies they are cruely kept in tiny cages so they cannot exercise and get fat – fatty flesh is worst for you too especially with all the hormones, steriods and antibiotics to prevent disease outbreaks in such unsanitary conditions – all unncessary cooked flesh. Nuclear Weapons are a real threat to us all though.
Part 3: www.youtube.com November 22, 2009 We’ve been told that a vegetarian diet can feed the hungry, honor the animals, and save the planet. Lierre Keith believed in that plant-based diet and spent twenty years as a vegan. But in The Vegetarian Myth, she argues that we’ve been led astray–not by our longings for a just and sustainable world, but by our ignorance. The truth is that agriculture is a relentless assault against the planet, and more of the same won’t save us. In service to annual grains, humans have devastated prairies and forests, driven countless species extinct, altered the climate, and destroyed the topsoil–the basis of life itself. Keith argues that if we are to save this planet, our food must be an act of profound and abiding repair: it must come from inside living communities, not be imposed across them. Part memoir, part nutritional primer, and part political manifesto, The Vegetarian Myth will challenge everything you thought you knew about food politics.
